Old Photos of People from Chirk North Wales
during the 1914 - 1918 War

These pictures are from the period 1914 - 1918. During this time a number of casualties from the First World War were sent to Chirk to recuperate from their injuries. The views show the patients and the nursing staff at various locations in and around Chirk.

The Brynkinalt Cottage Hospital was situated at the top of Chirk Green and prior to the First World War it was a children's hospital. It operated as a hospital from about 1916 - 1919 when it reverted back to a children's hospital. The cottage hospital is still in existence today as a private dwelling.

The Drill Hall has been altered over the years and is now the ambulance station. During the period 1916 - 1919 it was used as an annex for the the hospital with extra beds being installed in the building.
